We have a rule in our house that you can’t watch the movie until you have read the book. Now I watched Percy Jackson the Lightening Thief way back before I even considered such a rule should exist so I didn’t really stop and think what the release of the new movie Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters would mean to me.
My son has read all of the Percy Jackson books along with all of the Last Olympian books so he was primed and ready for the digital release of the movie (we don’t go to movie theaters) and as soon as it was released he was begging to view it.
So like the pushover I am, I immediately purchased the movie and fired up the Apple TV. I popped some popcorn and got us some drinks and settled in to watch the movie with my son.
Right after pressing Play my son snatched the remote from my fingers and pushed Pause and then looked at me with both brows raised in a very clear “What on earth do you think you are doing” look.
He queried, Have you read the book? I don’t recall you ever reading this book so….
And then he did this shooing motion with his hands.
Now right here I thought about telling a little white lie, telling him of course that I read the book, but I stopped and thought and didn’t tell that little white lie and here is why:
1. Lying is wrong
2. Um, See #1
3. No lie is little, or white for that matter
Ok. So I also thought that there was a good chance that he would quiz me and that if questioned about the specifics of the book I would surely fail said quiz.
I don’t like to fail. And, he would have known that I lied…see previous comments regarding lying.
I am not a big proponent of “Do as I say, not as I do” so, yep, lying was out and so was watching the movie.
So if I go quiet on Facebook and Twitter you now know why. I am speed reading the Percy Jackson books.
